Looking Forward and Gazing Back

Panel discussion featuring writers June Caldwell and Sinéad Gleeson and theatre maker and campaigner Lian Bell of #WakingTheFeminists movement, chaired by Garret Fagan.

The focus will be on the pratices, processes and contexts of Irish women’s writing today.

June Caldwell worked for many years as a freelance journalist and now writes fiction. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Queen’s University Belfast. Room Little Darker, her acclaimed collection of short stories was published in 2017. Her fiction has been published in The Stinging Fly, The Moth, Winter Papers, and The Lonely Crowd. She is a prizewinner of the Moth International Short Story Prize. Her first novel, Little Town Moone, is forthcoming from John Murray.

Lian Bell works as a set designer, cultural project manager, and artistic collaborator with some of the most significant arts organisations and contemporary performance makers in Ireland. She was Campaign Director of #WakingTheFeminists, the highly successful one-year grassroots campaign for equality for women in Irish theatre. 

Sinéad Gleeson’s essays have appeared in Granta, Banshee, Winter Papers and Gorse among othersHer short story ‘Counting Bridges’ was longlisted at the 2016 Irish Book Awards, and she has a short story in forthcoming Repeal the 8th anthology edited by Una Mullally. She is the editor of three anthologies. Her collection of essays, Constellations will be published in Spring 2019 by Picador.
